Months after CBS announced its hit Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon will end after its seventh season, star Annie Potts is speaking out about the decision.
The show had been given a three-season renewal in March 2021, taking the show up through Season 7, though CBS revealed in November that it would end that season.
With the series finale slated for May 16, with production ending just last week, Annie Potts didn’t hold back, calling it a ‘stupid business decision’ in a Variety interview.
Potts – who starred on hit shows like Designing Women, Love & War and Any Day Now – was asked if it gets any easier to say goodbye to a show.
‘This one was especially hard because I was completely unprepared. I was shocked. I mean, the No. 1 show on network TV, No. 1 on Netflix,’ she began.

Potts added, ‘We’re, I think, all that people watch on TikTok besides a couple of recipes for pasta. It just seemed like such a stupid business move.’
‘Forgive me, but I don’t know. If a show is starting to drag or lag or have a lack of stories or whatever, then you kind of see it coming. We were totally ambushed by this. I was, anyway,’ Potts admitted.
Her 15-year-old co-star Iain Armitage added, ‘I totally get what Annie means. It’s also just hard in a really weird way that I can only really see if I step back and try and take a global view, which is hard.’
‘I mean, I’m not going to get to see Annie Potts every day. This is a real loss for me. More than anyone. I definitely think we could have done a lot more,’ he added.
The show wrapped filming just last week, with Potts asked how she was feeling now that the work was done.
‘It’s been really, really, really emotional. I mean, it’s been half of Ian’s life, and it’s been a 10th of mine, but at 70, that feels significant,’ she said.
‘And, you know, it’s a little village that we have, and we’ve all taken care of each other and raised each other up. There will be a grievous hole in my life. There’s no question about it. It’ll get easier. Grief does, loss does,’ she admitted.
Armitage added, ‘It’s definitely hard to end and getting to work with such incredible people will always make it harder.’

‘I’ll get to hang out with Annie, I’m getting my pilot’s license and I’m going to get to give tours at Warner Bros., which will be wonderful,’ he said.
It was recently confirmed that Jim Parsons will return as the grown-up Sheldon, along with his wife Amy, played by Mayim Bialik.
‘It was incredible. It felt like a reunion, getting to see them back together. They know each other so well and act so well together. They knew each other’s cues, which was wonderful to see. I think Mister Jim and Miss Mayim both quite enjoyed it, so that’s nice,’ Armitage added.
