The city ranked eighth on the list for workers using ‘skiving tech’, devices that help avoid productivity monitoring in the workplace.

This information emerges from new data from QR Code Generator, highlighting post-holiday periods as peak times for employees to ‘slack off’ while appearing busy at home.

Google searches in Worcester for terms such as ‘mouse jiggler’, ‘mouse mover’ and ‘keyboard clicker’, tools that help evade monitoring software, were above the national average.

The city’s searches are 35 per cent more than the UK average, with an average monthly search volume of 73.9 per 100,000 residents.

Marc Porcar, the CEO of QR Code Generator, said: “Some areas, such as Worcester, are clearly more invested in finding ways to avoid productivity tracking compared to others like London.

“With the August bank holiday and the warmer weather, it’s likely that searches for skiving tech will increase as people look for ways to sneak in some extra time off while they recover from their bank holiday hangovers or enjoy the sun.”

Reading has topped the list of places likely to have workers skiving off during summer, with Preston and Wakefield close behind.
