There are many differences between the supermarket shopping experience in the UK and the US.
From product names and tax, to checkout layouts and staffing, its an entirely different trip over here it appears. One unusual difference an American woman has highlighted on a trip to the UK, however, is the variety of shopping trolleys to choose from this side of the pond.
Taking to TikTok, Frankie (@fnavanlife) admitted in a video she had “never seen so many options” before after visiting a Morrisons. “The food isn’t the only thing different when shopping in the UK,” she penned in a caption. “Look at all the carts! We’ve never seen so many options.”
Strapping her little one into a seat that formed part of a baby and toddler seat trolley, she began: “I just want to talk for a minute about how many different cart options there are in the UK for grocery shopping.”
After showcasing the one she was using, Frankie moved onto a standard trolley and continued: There’s medium size, no kids spot, but just a top rack. There’s multiple ones with car seats – even double if you have twins.”
Impressed further on her trip to Morrisons, she gushed over the “deep spinners” and the “multiple different accessible ones” before heading inside praise the supermarket’s baskets too.
“You think we’re done, but we’ve also got your traditional baskets and the wheelie baskets too.” Frankie closed her clip, asking her 23,000 followers: “Why does America only have one kind?”
Brits were quick to respond, explaining there are even more options in addition to those revealed by Frankie. “There’s also car ones, mini toddler size ones and one that’s between the big and medium that you mentioned,” one person responded.
A second TikTok user added: “There are single and double kids seat ones too and then medium ones with a kids seat.” Whilst a third added: “And the toddler trolleys they can push themselves in Lidl.”
Not everyone spoke in support of the UK’s options however. One person cursed: “I’m in a wheelchair and the accessible ones are so small and if you put like half of what a small trolley holds they fall on you. My local shop hides them inside in a different spot every time.” And second quipped: “All of them have wonky wheels.”
