Americans are heading to the polls on Election Day after Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump made their final pitches to voters on Monday, the last full day of campaigning.
The Republican chose to close out his final rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with personal attacks on Harris, former House speaker Nancy Pelosi and their fellow California Democrat Adam Schiff, as well as his own former White House chief of staff General John Kelly, who recenty labelled him a “fascist”.
Trump, who received a last-minute endorsement from influential podcaster Joe Rogan on Monday, was late on stage and only finished speaking at 2.09am, looking exhausted.
The Democrat, drawning a sharp contrast, was joined in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by celebrities Lady Gaga, Oprah Winfrey, Ricky Martin and The Roots while Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera supported her in Pittsburgh and Las Vegas, respectively.
Harris set a joyous tone and emphatically told her supporters for the final time: “We’re not going back!”
The first in-person votes were cast in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, at midnight – a tradition going back almost 65 years – with the town’s six registered voters split evenly between the two candidates.
JD Vance calls Harris ‘trash’ in final address
After Trump tried to turn Joe Biden’s “garbage” gaffe into a campaign stunt last week (the president having said it, if he even did say it, in response to a comedian’s offensive joke at Trump’s rally, don’t forget), garbage-gate came full circle last night in Atlanta, Georgia, when Trump’s running mate rounded out their campaign by saying the only real garbage was Kamala Harris.
As we’ve seen from the nominee himself, closing on a provocative note was clearly all part of the plan for the Republican ticket.
Here’s Alex Woodward on Trump appearing to reference his notorious Access Hollywood remarks in Raleigh, North Carolina, which almost derailed his campaign in 2016.

Trump’s serves up dark anti-immigration rhetoric in final message to pivotal Pennsylvania
Let’s have another look at Trump’s marathon string of rallies yesterday.
In the Keystone State, where he had events in Reading and Pittsburgh, Trump admitted he hoped Green Party candidate Jill Stein would peel votes from Harris and offered more disturbingly violent rhetoric on migrants.
He did belatedly announce a new policy: placing hefty tariffs on Mexican imports unless the US’s southern neighbor did more to stop illegal immigration.
After that, it was back to dark fantasies about what will happen if Harris wins, a visit from his one-time media enemy Megyn Kelly and then a worrying proclamation that his prospective health and nutrition czar RFK Jr is “so into women’s health”.
Here he is giving a shoutout to his friend Nigel Farage, a “rebel” who he claimed was the “last big winner” of a British election, which, I would have said, was prime minister Sir Keir Starmer.
Trump calls Nigel Farage a ‘little bit of a rebel’ in rally shoutout
Donald Trump gave a special mention to Reform MP Nigel Farage during his rally in Pennsylvania. Speaking on election eve (4 November), the former US President gave a shoutout to his “friend”, who was watching in the audience. After telling the crowd Farage is doing a “great job” in the UK, Trump said: “He’s shaking it up out there. “He was the big winner of the last election in the UK.” Trump then added: “He’s a little bit of a rebel but that’s good, Don’t change.”

Watch: Trump blasts ‘sick’ critics who question his cognitive skills
It’s worth pointing out that, whatever happens this evening, last night’s event in Grand Rapids, Michigan, might have been Donald Trump’s last ever rally appearance after dominating the American political landscape for almost a decade.
Here’s more evidence of him using that moment to deride his enemies, rather than reflect on the wider meaning of it all.
Trump blasts ‘sick’ critics who question his cognitive skills in final rally
Trump blasted “sick” critics who question his cognitive skills in his final rally in Michigan The former US President told the crowd he had done over 900 rallies and hardly made a mistake, as he took aim at Kamala Harris for using a teleprompter. Speaking on election eve (4 November), Trump said: “Don’t you like a president that doesn’t need to use a teleprompter? Isn’t that something refreshing? “900 rallies I’ve done, rarely do they ever catch me making a mistake, then if I say it wrong they say ‘he’s cognitively impaired’. I will let you know when that time happens.” He then labeled those who criticize him as “sick”.

It was not just Joe Rogan leaving it late to come out for a candidate.

Philadelphia district attorney issues tough message on election interference
Take a bow Larry Krasner, who said this yesterday:
“I want people to be reassured that, when they get up tomorrow to go vote – if they have not voted already – that everybody in this city is working and has been working for months to make sure that there will be nothing tough about that experience and nothing to fear in that experience.
“But I also want to be clear. Anybody who thinks it’s time to play militia: Eff around and find out.
“Anybody who thinks it’s time to insult, to deride, to mistreat, to threaten people: Eff around and find out. We do have the cuffs, we do have the jail cells, we do have the Philly juries and we have the state prisons.”
