Planning a staycation? Why not tick some of the UK’s top tourist attractions off your bucket list?
According to Tripadvisor reviews, the Tower of London is the UK’s best-rated tourist attraction with over 45,000 ‘excellent’ reviews.
The Tower only failed to impress 411 visitors who left the attraction a one-star review on the platform.
Built in 1078, The Tower of London houses the Crown Jewels and draws over three million visitors per year.
It was even London’s first zoo and was once known as the ‘Royal Menagerie’. The Tower housed lions, elephants and even a polar bear in the past.
Although the Tower wasn’t initially designed as a prison, it was soon turned into a jail for anyone considered to have crossed the royals or the country.
While Anne Boleyn might be the Tower’s most famous prisoner, Queen Elizabeth I and Sir Walter Raleigh were also once imprisoned within its walls.
