One unusual attraction they raved about was its Tenby Steampunk Festival, which launched for the first time this year.

Set to return in March 2025, the festival welcomed Victorian outfits, and peacock parades.

Rough Guides also said: “Thanks to a fabulous new festival that offers a window into British eccentricity in one of the UK’s best seaside towns, Tenby is also a top spot in which to experience something new — and very different — in 2025.”

But the town is also known for its beautiful harbour and multicoloured buildings.

Most tourists also make sure to travel to Caldey island which is a 20-minute boat ride away.

Along with a shop and lighthouse, there is also an island monastery.

It also has the golden sand Priory Beach, which is the best place to watch the boats arriving on the island.

Just make sure you time your visit right as boats only run from Easter to the end of October on Monday to Friday.

This is extended to Saturdays in June, July and August but is always closed on Sundays.

Local Matthew Evans, who runs Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire with his wife, also said Tenby was one of the best places for a Wales trip.

Exploring the UK’s Hidden Coastal Gems

He previously told Sun Travel: “There are four epic sandy beaches and a picture-perfect harbour paired with idyllic cobbled streets, plenty of seaside activities, and independent bars, restaurants, and cafes.”

One of the most popular attractions is The Dinosaur Park with huge statues of the prehistoric creatures as well as adventure nets and walking safaris.

Want to stay the night? Penally Abbey hotel in Tenby was rated highly at the 2024 AA Hotel and Hospitality Services, given three Red stars.

A local also told Rough Guides of another Welsh town to visit: “I visit Pembrokeshire a few times a year, and always try to spend time in the pretty town of Narberth.

“It’s loaded with locally-owned boutiques and family-friendly places to eat and drink.

“I also recommend booking a boat trip (or two!) to explore Pembrokeshire’s magnificent coastline and islands.”

In the mean time, here is the seaside town which has been named the best in the UK for the fourth year running.

And these are the UK seaside destinations that experts say are best to visit in winter.
