UK unscripted prodco Rumpus Media has appointed Adeel Amini to the newly created role of head of entertainment.

Adeel Amini

The firm, known for Late Night Lycett and The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan, has hired the Bradford-born producer to lead development and production of its entertainment slate.

Amini will join Rumpus in August from Objective Media Group, where he produced ITV gameshow Lingo, its RuPaul-hosted US counterpart for CBS, and Saturday night BBC One series Alan Carr’s Picture Slam, which was recently commissioned for a second season.

Across his role as series producer at Objective, Amini was also part of the development team for the latter two projects.

Rumpus Media is part of the STV Studios family of labels. Amini previously produced STV Studios Entertainment’s Celebrity Catchphrase for ITV. He has also worked across many other major formats, including Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Family Fortunes.

Amini said: “I could not be more thrilled to join Rumpus as head of entertainment, which comes as the next exciting phase of my 16-year career in the genre. I’ve been an admirer of both the company and of [acting MD] Josephine Brassey ever since I had the pleasure of working with her many years ago, and I’m very much looking forward to everything we can achieve together at Rumpus.”

Rumpus Media’s expanding team will also include Abby Kumar as development producer. Joining from Studio Ramsay, Kumar has worked across entertainment formats and scripted comedy, developing and producing shows such as Sky special A League of Their Own: The Lionesses, Channel 4 travelogue series Trip Hazard and BBC shortform comedy series The Archiveologists.

Brassey said: “Rumpus has an ambitious strategy to create and deliver original, innovative, global formats, and Adeel is one of few UK talents who can deliver to the scale of this ambition in both the UK and internationally.

“I’ve admired the work of both Adeel and Abby, and wanted to collaborate with each of them, for the best part of my career, so I’m delighted they’ve decided to join Rumpus as we move into our next chapter.”
