Trains reduced to ‘one an hour’ as passengers warned ‘travel only if absolutely necessary’
Train passengers travelling in the West Midlands have been warned to travel ‘only if absolutely necessary’ as Storm Darragh arrived in the region. People in the West Midlands have woken up to strong winds and rain as the Met Office issued a Yellow weather alert for wind in the region.
Amid the weather warning, train operator Chiltern Railways has warned passengers to only use trains for essential travel on Saturday (December 7). A reduced timetable is in place today, with only one train travelling per hour on Chiltern Railways’ services which run between Birmingham Moor Street and Snow Hill and London Marylebone.
The operator said customers with tickets on Saturday can use their ticket on Sunday 8 December – subject to the storm subsiding – alongside Monday 9 December or Tuesday 10 December instead.

Tony Baxter, operations director at Chiltern Railways, said: “I urge customers to only travel if essential on Saturday and take extra care as Storm Darragh will cause disruption to our services. Strong winds can significantly impact railway infrastructure, including blowing trees or other objects onto the line and unfortunately the storm is set to affect our network throughout Saturday.
“Customers with valid tickets on Saturday can use their ticket on Sunday (8 December), Monday (9 December), or Tuesday (10 December), instead.”
