An escape room centre is celebrating double business awards success, as it also spreads the word about the experiences it offers in Sudbury.
EO Escape Rooms picked up the innovation award at the annual Suffolk Small Business Awards in May, where it was also nominated for the best family-run small business accolade.
Set up by brother-and-sister duo Richard and Kelly Goodchild, the business operates various escape rooms – specially-designed interactive scenarios which groups work together to solve and reach the exit.
For its escape room called ‘Scary Tale’, the company also received the player’s choice award for the East of England from Escape The Review, a national escape room enthusiasts’ website.
EO also finished 2023 as the East of England’s top-ranked escape room business on the website and the third highest-rated in the UK.
Kelly said it was great to be recognised for the efforts they had put in over the last four years, since opening at the end of the Covid-19 lockdown.
“Escape rooms are worldwide, but this is quite a big thing for a little brother-and-sister-run company,” she said. “Rich is the mastermind behind our technology, but he also still works another job.
“We are the first escape rooms in Sudbury, so it’s nice recognition when we have worked so hard to bring something unique and different.”

In addition to its range of scenarios in Sudbury, EO also recently ran a mobile escape room as part of the recent LeeStock Music Festival, in Long Melford.
This game was unique for being powered entirely by a single car battery, including control station cameras and technical puzzles incorporated into the escape room.
