With the UK’s recently appointed government searching for ways to grow the economy, Citywire Elite Companies has gone on the hunt for the world’s best portfolio managers’ favourite companies in what should be the engine room of British growth and innovation: mid- and small-cap companies.

The 10 favourites are an eclectic mix but are not the most inspirational from the perspective of cutting-edge innovation. However, many do offer compelling value and all boast strong support from some of the world’s top professional investors. In this article we look at the two government outsourcing companies among the 10: Babcock (GB:BAB) and Serco (GB:SRP).
