Greece is an excellent travel destination, popular with tourists throughout the year. From Patras to Athens and the numerous Greek islands, there are many places to explore.

However, when is the ideal time to visit and are there certain times of the year you should avoid? According to the most recent travel advice from TUI, the travel and tourism company, your visit to this favoured tourist spot should be delightful and you can expect plenty of sunshine and, likely, no rain during your stay.

They say: “You’re all but guaranteed good weather in Greece in the summer. Temperatures are usually in the 30s, plus you can expect about 12 hours of sunshine a day. And as for rain, you’ll hardly see a drop in July and August.”

They suggest that for people who like cooler weather, spring and autumn offer ample sunshine with more moderate temperatures, typically in the mid-20s. These transitional months are ideal for visiting if you enjoy walking or sightseeing, as the heat is not overwhelming, even at midday. Occasional rain showers may occur during these periods as well.

At present, the temperatures in Greece are soaring and because of this, people are being warned to stay indoors. According to the Mirror Online, temperatures are expected to hit a sweltering 46C in parts of Greece with recent forecasts warning of an impending “heat bomb” that could shatter all-time records.

Weather charts have turned a concerning shade of dark red, indicating potential extreme heat for areas such as Larissa, while other regions prepare for high temperatures of 40-41°C. Discussing the so-called “heat bomb”, meteorologist Jim Dale from British Weather Services, told Express.co.uk: “I think it will happen well before the end of July and will continue into August.
