As summer draws near, more people are opting for staycations, choosing to explore the beauty and attractions within their own country rather than venturing abroad.

From serene countryside retreats to bustling city escapes, staycations provide a diverse range of options, allowing holidaymakers to discover new destinations and rediscover familiar ones right on their doorstep.

The UK has over 12,000 miles of rugged coastline, so many would expect the top staycation spot to be a seaside town, probably somewhere in holiday hotspots like Cornwall, Devon or Dorset.

But Harrogate, a town far from the UK’s scenic coastlines, has been named the best place for a staycation by AA

To guide travellers, The AA’s experts analysed destinations based on local happiness ratings, the availability of car parking spaces, petrol stations, and EV chargers, as well as the number of things to do and places to stay.

Harrogate emerged as the top choice for a staycation.

Known for its high happiness rating of 7.8 out of 10 among residents, the town promises a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere for visitors.

Additionally, Harrogate offers a wealth of amenities for modern travellers, including plenty of EV charging spots and petrol stations, ensuring convenience for those traveling by car.

One of Harrogate’s standout features is its renowned wellness resorts.

The town has a rich history as a spa destination, making it an ideal place for visitors to indulge in pampering treatments.

Whether it’s unwinding in a sauna, taking a refreshing swim, or enjoying various spa therapies, Harrogate’s wellness centers offer the perfect escape for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Harrogate is not just about relaxation, as it also caters to nature enthusiasts and adventurers.

The nearby Brimham Rocks, known for their stunning rock formations, provide a spectacular site for exploration.

The town is also surrounded by numerous hiking routes, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the natural landscape.

For garden lovers, Harrogate offers lush green spaces like RHS Garden Harlow Carr and Valley Gardens.

These beautifully maintained gardens showcase vibrant floral displays and serene landscapes, perfect for peaceful strolls.

For those planning a staycation, Harrogate is well-equipped with practical amenities.
