WHILE supermarkets continue to be a dominant force, it is nice to shop somewhere a bit different.

Independent shops are a great way of doing so, each with a unique atmosphere.

We have listed six of the best shops to visit around the Hereford area, according to Google reviews, for those looking for something different.

Timothy and Birch – 4.9 stars from 139 reviews

This shop in Bridge Sollers not only offers a range of homewares, but also a coffee shop. Their “casual eatery” serves tasty cakes, coffees and meals.

Ian Roberts gave it five stars on Google, saying: “Does breakfasts and lunches. Limited vegetarian options but you can adjust the menu items to suit. Great cakes, coffee and good selection of tea. Great service and a relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of car parking space with overflow area.”

Pritchards – 4.6 stars from 28 reviews

This men’s clothing shop in King Street, Hereford, is a popular choice for premium menswear.

Angie Davis said: “It may be expensive, but you get what you pay for. Helpful staff. Very pleased with our purchases.”

Hereford Cider Museum – 4.6 stars from 456 reviews

The cider museum tells the history of cider, but also has a shop selling ciders.

Rebecca Harvey said: “I spotted this on a map as I was looking for ideas for a day out with my adult son. The people there are so friendly. The museum itself has a lot to offer. There is also a shop where you can sample some ciders and purchase from the wide selection on offer. There are toilets (including disabled) and a cafe (we had a lovely cup of tea, tea for two was £4). There are some stairs and some narrow spaces. However, there are concession prices.”

Philip Morris and Son – 4.5 stars from 346 reviews

A Hereford classic, this shop offers a range of country, shooting and fishing clothes and equipment.

Charlie Armour said: “Excellent service, very professional. The product I purchased is beyond excellent. I am chuffed to bits by it. Looks to be expensive until you realise how good it is. The Barbour jacket I bought will last a lifetime. Highly recommended.”

Oakchurch Farm Shop – 4.4 stars from 1,552 reviews

One of Herefordshire’s most beloved farm shops, Oakchurch is famous across the county for its ice creams. But the Staunton-on-Wye shop also sells clothing, plants, homeware, toys and more, as well as having a restaurant.

Paul Llewellyn gave it five stars, saying: “Fabulous garden centre in the beautiful Hereford countryside. Stocked with a huge array of healthy flowers, trees and shrubs. The farm shop sells high quality butchery, greengrocery and other delicious foodstuffs. There is also a cook shop within. The restaurant sells hot and cold meals with teas and coffee etc for indoor or outdoor seating. Well worth a visit if not only for the tasty ice cream.”
