Simon Calder has shared which stunning island in Greece would be his bargain holiday choice in 2024.

The travel expert joined Alison and Dermot on ITV’s This Morning to discuss new research from Which? Travel on Europe’s cheapest destinations.

Which? found the island of Kalymnos was the cheapest spot and the surprising results revealed that Italy’s Amalfi coast was one of this year’s best bargains.

However, Simon said a different Greek island would be his “choice” out of the top cheapest destinations.

Thassos, a gorgeous Greek island, was this year’s second cheapest destination for an all-inclusive holiday.

Simon told ITV: “Absolutely lovely. It’s in the north. It’s really different from all the other ones.

“It’s got great features. It’s got this wonderful mountain in the middle. You have to get a little ferry across to there from Kavala, but once you do, it’s just absolute heaven.

“Loads going on. It’s got proper Greek stuff, ancient remains and things like that. And of course all those lovely tavernas you just want to sit in. So that would probably be my choice out of the top 10.”

In Greece’s northern Aegean Sea, Thassos’ top attractions include its archaeological museum and art gallery.

When it comes to beaches, Golden Beach is the best-rated spot and tourists described it as a “very nice sandy beach”.

Kalymnos’ deputy mayor also joined Simon on This Morning and said the island had “lovely beaches”.

She added that the island is ready for an influx of tourists and said Kalymnos had enough hotels to accommodate everyone coming.

Kalymnos was the cheapest choice for a package holiday this year and the island is so small you can drive around it in just an hour and a half.

Simon warned tourists that they will need to catch a ferry to the island as you can’t fly there directly from the UK.
