These are the seven warning signs your personal phone has been hacked as cyber attackers continue to target the UK.
Both Transport for London and the NHS have fallen victim to hackers this year, attempting to destroy key infrastructure and holding firms to ransom.
But it is not just big companies which are at risk, with your own mobile device capable of holding malicious ransomware while it sits in the pocket of your jeans.
Android users have been urged to delete a number of apps harbouring viruses which can take money out of people’s bank accounts.
Even Whatsapp was found to be at risk, after cybersecurity experts discovered anyone could delete anyone else’s account through a flaw in the tech company’s system.
1. Battery problems
If your mobile’s battery drains very quickly or becomes way too hot, it could be a sign of hacking.
Malware may be running in the background, which is consuming power and draining the battery’s life.
2. High usage of data
A spike in data usage can also point towards a breach.
Hackers are able to take over your phone and use a device’s data without your knowledge.
3. Slow performance
If your phone is lagging whenever you try to get it do something, this could be due to hackers.
Malware downloaded onto a device uses up system resources and slows down functions and apps.
4. Apps you don’t recognise
If you have discovered an unfamiliar app on your device, you may have been hacked.
Malicious applications can be installed on your phone so hackers can gain access and gain control of personal data.
5. Unusual activity
Hackers can often send strange calls, texts or emails to devices they have compromised.
They are also able to use your device to carry out their own activities.
6. Strange pop-ups
Constant pop-ups or ads is another sign your phone has been hacked.
Intrusive ads are used to profit from compromised mobiles.
If this is happening on your phone, do not ignore it and monitor your device.
7. Sudden decline in performance
If your mobile becomes unresponsive, this is a sign of hacking.
Software can be used to cause your device to slowdown.
