The 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways and 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants for 2025 were revealed at the annual awards, now in its 13th year.
The results follow months of judging in which takeaways, restaurants and mobile units were secretly assessed by mystery diners on a range of aspects such as:
- Food quality
- Premises cleanliness
- Staff expertise
- Value for money
- Ease of ordering
- Social media presence
Only the operators with the highest scores earn an award.
The UK’s favourite takeaways

North Wales fish and chip shop among UK’s best takeaways
There was just one North Wales fish and chip shop recognised in the Fry Awards 2025:
Ainsworth’s Fish & Chips (Caernarfon)
Ainsworth’s Fish & Chips was named in the top 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways for 2025.
The chippy also comes highly recommended by visitors, boasting a 4.5 (out of 5) ranking on Tripadvisor from 787 reviews.
One person commented: “Best fish and chip shop in town! They make all of their food to order and it definitely shows!
“The chips were perfectly golden and crispy on the outside. Fish was beautifully flaky and not greasy.
“Highly recommend you check them out over the other places in town—you will not be disappointed!”
