EAST Crinnis Holiday Park has been named as one of the best campsites in the UK by a group of experts.

The rising cost of holidays means more people are considering vacations closer to home.

Just a five minute drive from the Eden Project, East Crinnis Holiday Park is ideal for families who want to explore Cornish hotspots like St Austell Bay.

East Crinnis Holiday Park featured in a 2024 list of Outstanding sites on the Campsites.co.uk website.

They wrote: “Each year, we publish our list of Outstanding Sites. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or just starting out, these hand-picked sites are a combination of our award winners and other sites we rate highly for offering their campers a reliably great holiday.”

Set near the tiny fishing village of Charlestown, the highly-rated holiday park is surrounded by stunning seaside views, making it the perfect spot for beach-lovers.

There are 63 different accommodation options on the site, including 13 non-electric grass pitches, 32 electric grass pitches and 11 electric hardstanding pitches.

Other accommodation options include several log cabins and three glamping tents.

One glamping tent is a yurt while the other two are geodomes, all of which are fully furnished with a double bed and shared access to showers.

The family-run site has been welcoming holidaymakers since 1989, with lots of amenities for visitors like shared shower facilities and a kitchen.

Other on-site amenities include a children’s play park and a small shop that’s located inside The Shack.

Takeaways, live music and quizzes can also be found in The Shack – although it isn’t open during the winter.

The campsite has been praised by visitors, with one person writing: “A really welcoming and lovely site, I would definitely recommend and hope to come back again soon”.

Another person added: “The campsite was well kept, the plots were very sizeable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.”

Arguably one of the UK’s most famous attractions, the Eden Project opened to visitors in 2001.

Despite being open for over 20 years, the Eden Project still attractions visitors to this day.

Described as a “global garden” by Visit Cornwall, the Eden Project features an Outdoor Garden with wild landscapes and a huge collection of European plants.

There are also several Biomes on site, including the Rainforest Biome described as the attraction’s “gleaming green jewel in its crown” thanks to treetop views from its Canopy Walkway.

Other bargain campsites

And Nantcol Waterfalls isn’t the only bargain campsite in the UK, as there are other places dotted around the country, including Stonethwaite Farm in the Lake District.

Pitches at Stonethwaite Farm start from £8 per night, with enough space for 60 tents.

There are several facilities on site including cold running water, toilets, a place to wash pots, and a waste disposal system.

Holidaymakers will be able to reach the campsite down a narrow track, which has enough room for small campervans.

Three camping tips from an expert

David Scotland owns camping equipment retailer Outdoor World Direct and knows all about how to make a camping trip run smoothly.

When visiting any campsite this summer it’s important to make sure you’re not making simple mistakes that could ruin your holiday.

Check your tent

David recommends putting your tent up a couple of weeks before you’re due to travel to give you enough time to repair or replace any damaged parts.

He told Sun Online Travel: “You’d be surprised how many people turn up with broken tents.”

Test the ground

Picking a good spot to pitch your tent is difficult, with lots of things to consider.

One of those should be the condition of the ground you’re putting your tent on top of, according to David.

He said: “Once you’ve found the perfect spot, test the ground with your pegs before you commit to camping there to make sure the ground is soft enough.”

Don’t nap in your tent

It may seem the perfect place for it, but a nap in a tent could end badly, if it’s done at the wrong time of the day.

David explained: “If the sun’s shining and it’s hot inside your tent – don’t do it!

“One of our friends nodded off in his tent during a heatwave at Glastonbury and ended up at the medical tent with heatstroke.”

Instead, he recommends finding some shade outside or somewhere well ventilated.

Meanwhile, this is the best campsite to visit in the UK in 2024, and it has sea and mountain views.

And this huge UK campsite in Wales is regularly visited by dolphins.
