WHEN it comes to good grub, Scotland punches above its weight.
We’ve got some of the best produce, freshest seafood and most creative chefs on the planet.
Now that accolade is official with Tripadvisor‘s new Travellers‘ Choice Awards, Best of the Best Restaurants revealed.
Only one eaterie in the UK makes it onto the top 10 list for casual dining – and it’s in Edinburgh.
Making it into ninth place in the world, and first in the UK, is Makars Gourmet Mash Bar.
Described by reviewers as an ‘Edinburgh legend’ and ‘local gem’, it serves up an array of Scottish delicacies, with all mains served with a generous dollop of your choice of mashed potato.
These include tatties with applewood cheese, black pudding or chilli smoked bean medley.
And customers love the place with more than 8,000 excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.
One said: “Quite simply – the best dining experience I’ve had in months!”
While another wrote: “This is a wonderful restaurant! The food was superb and the service amazing.”
Another two Scottish restaurants made it onto the casual dining UK top ranking with Murphy’s Pakora Bar, in Glasgow, at number four and Howies Waterloo Place, in Edinburgh, at number seven.
If fine dining is more what you’re after, The Kitchin, in Edinburgh, was named number five in the UK in that category.
