Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley revealed that he was axed from a major TV show.
The veteran presenter, 68, hosted GMB alongside Susanna Reid on Tuesday and revealed a bombshell about his foray into acting.
The pair interviewed actor David Harewood, who has recently stepped into the role of President of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and discussed the actor’s struggles with mental health.
Richard asked David about a post he made on X in which he revealed a role he’d been promised had been scrapped at the last minute.
The presenter then shared his own experience with a similar situation, saying: ‘The reason why I wanted you to talk about that a very similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I did a pilot for a big, big new entertainment show, I was told that it had gone well.
‘We had got the commission, we got the pilot and we got a series of 30 and then they gave it to somebody else! So that’s our life.’
David Laughed: ‘They went somewhere else, Richard? You can’t tell me they went somewhere else, you are a star!’
Susanna quickly got the interview back on track, but some viewers were annoyed by Richard’s interjection.
One X user, Norfolk_Kez, wrote: ‘Yet again, Richard makes it all about him!! So glad Susanna called him out live on air…not sure it was intentional but, Richard’s bright red face sure noticed!’
While its unclear what show dropped Richard, he has also appeared on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and covered for Steph McGovern on her Channel 4 show Steph’s Packed Lunch in 2021.
The uncomfortable moment came after Richard recently faced backlash for ‘defending’ Prince Andrew on GMB.
Hosting the show alongside Charlotte Hawkins on August 26, Madeley spoke to Kwasi Kwarteng and Nells Abbey about the news of the day, eventually bringing up the subject of Prince Andrew’s involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
Madeley asked his co-host and the panel members: ‘Is it time to lay off Prince Andrew?’
The host continued: ‘This photograph which was taken a few minutes after he wrapped his car crash interview with Emily Maitlis, saying, “Well that went rather well didn’t it?” Totally unaware of what he’d just done to his profile, his future, his reputation and everything.’
Madeley went on to say that National Portrait Gallery’s acquisition of the picture ‘seems to be rubbing his face in it.’
He then asked: ‘Is it time to cut the guy just a little bit of slack? Has he suffered enough?’
After Kwarteng pointed out that Prince Andrew has ‘hit rock bottom,’ Madeley said: ‘He’s a human being.’
In, response quite a few viewers took to social media to call for Madeley to be sacked.
