Circular economy specialist Reconomy has promised to switch to 100% renewable electricity, sourced from solar, wind and hydro power, across its UK business.

Reconomy has partnered with Bryt Energy to switch to renewable electricity as part of its global sustainable procurement strategy to reach net zero and key climate targets.

Bryt Energy, part of the Statkraft group, is an international hydropower company and “Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy”.

Reconomy said the partnership will support it to meet the target of increasing its active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 86% in 2021 to 100% by 2028.

This partnership will help us in that mission and will support us on our journey to achieving our ambitious sustainability targets.

The circular economy specialist also has a target of reaching net zero GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions across its value chain by 2040.

The agreement was brokered by Adalta Energy and will deliver cost-savings of around 20% and will provide real-time data usage through the installation of advanced 15-minute meters, Reconomy said.

Diane Crowe, Group Sustainability Director at Reconomy, commented: “As a business centred on accelerating the circular economy to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, we are keen to demonstrate leadership in our industry.

“This partnership will help us in that mission and will support us on our journey to achieving our ambitious sustainability targets.”

Last year, Reconomy announced it had transitioned 80% of its diesel cars to electric/hybrid vehicles.
