The next wave of PS Plus Extra and Premium games are about to be released by Sony. The new PlayStation Plus games have a September 17 release date and an estimated 11am BST UK launch time. The Extra line-up contains a selection of PS4 and PS5 games, while Premium subscribers will also be able to download and play a combination of PSVR 2 titles and old classics. Brand new release The Plucky Squire headlines what is an otherwise underwhelming month for PlayStation Plus Extra. The Plucky Squire is a charming adventure game not too dissimilar to classic Legend of Zelda titles. The difference, however, is that it’s presented in a unique storybook form that flits between different perspectives.

Sony explains more: “The Plucky Squire follows the magical adventures of Jot and his friends – storybook characters who discover a three-dimensional world outside the pages of their book.

“When the malevolent Humgrump realises he’s the villain of the book – destined to lose his battle against the forces of good for all eternity – he kicks the heroic Jot out of its pages and changes the story forever.

“Jot must face challenges unlike anything he’s ever seen if he is to save his friends from Humgrump’s dark forces and restore the book’s happy ending.”

According to the official description, players will be able to jump between 2D and 3D worlds, all the while solving puzzles, defeating enemies and completing mini-game style challenges.

While the rest of the line-up looks completely average, The Plucky Squire is definitely one to watch out for, as you can see from the gameplay trailer below.

Other games joining PS Plus Extra in September include Under The Waves, Night in the Woods, Chernobylite, Wild Card Football, Space Engineers, Road 96, Ben 10 and Far Cry 5.

While there are some good games there, the September line-up is definitely lacking in big name releases.

Other than The Plucky Squire, it’s actually the Premium line-up that looks more interesting in September.

For starters, there’s the PSVR 2 version of Pistol Whip, which is easily one of the best games on the platform.

What I imagine a VR John Wick game would look like, Pistol Whip sees players “blast, duck and dodge” their way through multiple scenarios, and all to a thumping soundtrack.

Secret Agent Clank and Sky Gunner also join the Premium line-up, alongside cult classic PS2 game Mister Mosquito.

One of those oddball games that seem to be lost to time, Mister Mosquito sees players control a mosquito looking for enough blood to survive the winter. This particular version contains a number of improvements, including up-rendering, rewind, quick saves and video filters.

Needless to say, Sony is also planning to remove a number of games from the PS Plus Extra library, so consider this your last chance to play the likes of Horizon Forbidden West, Unpacking and Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

That’s on top of 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, Planet Coaster, Alien Isolation, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Nier Replicant, Spiritfarer and Cloudpunk.

Fans of JRPGs will also be disappointed to hear that a host of Star Ocean games are leaving PS Plus Extra, such as Star Ocean: First Departure R, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, Star Ocean: The Last Hope and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.
