Plans for the Gather & Soul development at 52 Gas Street, in the city’s Westside Business Improvement District, have been submitted to Birmingham City Council.

Designed by international architects Broadway Malyan, the Gather & Soul development would have a specialised solar façade on the main building, projected to generate more than 427,000-kilowatt hours of energy a year.

Proposals involve demolishing the former factory and stable buildings on Gas Street to create a new purpose-built co-living development and converting the former Toll House.

The “multi-storey energy positive” development will feature 161 ensuite co-living apartments, ranging from 25 to 31 sq m, including four within the refurbished and restored Toll House.

Gather & Soul will offer 820 sq m of shared spaces for a lounge, co-working, games, and a gym at ground level, with an additional 560 sq m of leisure space on the rooftops.

Amenities will include a reception with a concierge, a postroom, parcel-drop space, a laundry room and 100 secure cycle spaces.

The project has undergone various pre-application and public consultation stages before the full planning submission in June.
