The Children’s Society charity shop at 28 The Parade has been shortlisted as the ‘best charity shop in the UK” award.

The award has been given by the Charity Retail Association and the store in Exmouth is one of the final six in the southwest.

Judges visited the store and said: “The staff and volunteers always welcome you with a cheery smile. The stock is varied and well-presented and the window displays are always well presented. When you go in all the staff are friendly and helpful if you can’t find what you are looking for they are happy to help and direct you.

“Staff support the local community and always have time for a chat and work to keep the window displays looking fantastic.”

A spokesman said: “The past year and a half has been particularly challenging for the team. After shop manager Zaina fell ill, a volunteer stepped up to manage the shop with a skeleton crew. Together, they have worked tirelessly to keep the shop open and stocked.”

The team is now asking for the community’s support in securing the award. Voting closes on September 23rd. Find out more on the Charity Retail Association website.
