The actuarial branch of Oliver Wyman has strengthened its property and casualty capability in Europe by setting up a London-based presence. To spearhead the effort, Matthew Facey has joined the firm as a partner based in London.

Oliver Wyman Actuarial is a specialist business of global management consultancy Oliver Wyman. Providing actuarial services to insurers, investors, healthcare providers, corporates, and other clients, the practice collaborates with the management consulting team within Oliver Wyman, in particular the insurance and asset management practice, which caters to the same client base. The combination of management consulting, actuarial expertise, and access to insights from across Marsh McLennan, makes Oliver Wyman uniquely placed to serve the needs of insurance sector clients.

As the UK’s pension market braces for another year of changes, Oliver Wyman Actuarial has established a new presence of its property and casualty (P&C) capability in London. This initiative will enhance support for clients across both the UK and continental Europe, collaborating closely with Oliver Wyman’s market-leading management consulting practice and leveraging the collective strengths of the Marsh McLennan group, which includes Marsh, Guy Carpenter, and Mercer.

To head up the new hub, Oliver Wyman has welcomed Matthew Facey to the firm. In his role as partner in the P&C team, Facey is tasked with developing the capability within Oliver Wyman Actuarial’s European practice to meet the diverse needs of carriers, including reserving, pricing, capital model creation and validation, technology, business planning, actuarial and finance transformation, and transaction ambitions.

Global P&C Practice Leader Dan Gibson commented, “Following last year’s successful launch of Oliver Wyman Actuarial’s UK practice, we are excited to welcome Matt to lead our European P&C capability. His extensive experience in the UK and European markets will be vital in strengthening our European actuarial practice and assisting clients in navigating a dynamic landscape and evolving regulatory requirements.”

He brings over 23 years of actuarial experience across the European P&C and technology sectors, advising a broad range of insurance companies and Lloyd’s of London syndicates. Facey spent a majority of his career at Willis Towers Watson where he played a pivotal role in accelerating its growth in London and the Middle East.

Speaking on the appointment, Facey added, “Having built a career dedicated to delivering exceptional value to clients in a rapidly changing business environment, I am delighted to join Oliver Wyman Actuarial to broaden our European offering and drive advancements in actuarial services. Our accomplished teams, in conjunction with Oliver Wyman’s insurance and asset management practice, creates a powerful platform for providing high-quality, independent advice that empowers clients to navigate challenges and creates an environment where their actuaries can truly excel.”
