Number of advertised jobs in UK falls to pre-pandemic levels

The number of advertised jobs in the UK fell to pre-pandemic levels in December with new job postings down even more sharply.

The latest Labour Market Tracker from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation shows the number of active job postings in December 2024 was 1.41 million, down 5.5 per cent from November and back to almost exactly the same level recorded in December 2019.

An active job posting is defined as those which were live online during the period. The number of new job postings in December was 550,000, down 16.8 per cent on the previous month, reflecting the annual Christmas slowdown in advertised jobs, the trade body said.

The profession now most in demand, according to the confederation, is still childminders, with job postings
