A SHORTLIST has now been announced from this year’s record-breaking number of entries for the latest round of OEUK’s and Step Change in Safety’s successful Offshore Safety Awards.

The unprecedented total of 64 nominations received for the awards demonstrates a continuing awareness of the need to share good practice as widely as possible to protect the workforce as the expansion of offshore energies brings new safety challenges.

The award scheme is designed to acknowledge and showcase the outstanding contribution of individuals, teams, and organisations to improving safety at their own worksite and across the wider industry.

The judging criteria for each category require nominators of each entry to explain how their nominee identified a specific hazard, what they did to address it and how their actions impacted on their own organisation and the wider industry.

Winners will be announced at the annual celebration event on July 2 at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom which is organised by Offshore Energies UK and Step Change in Safety and sponsored by Harbour Energy.

This full-day, free-to-attend event will include keynote presentations, panel sessions, networking, drinks reception and the audience will be invited to participate in judging the awards. Finalists will film video selfies and explain on the day how they have contributed to offshore safety

Gatsbyd Forsyth,  Senior Vice President North Sea health, safety, environment, and security at Harbour Energy said: “Ensuring our colleagues are kept safe and well is Harbour’s number one priority, with the Offshore Safety Awards representing a fantastic opportunity to recognise team, individual and organisation-wide efforts to drive a culture of safety excellence across our industry. It’s great to be able to support these awards, and I look forward to joining my colleagues and others in July, to celebrate the achievements of this year’s finalists.”

Graham Skinner Health and Safety Manager at Offshore Energies UK said: “Great safety performance can only be achieved through active engagement of the frontline workforce, open communication with leadership and individuals at all levels taking responsibility for safety. These awards recognise those companies and individuals who are leading in safety. The high quality of entries and number of nominations is testimony to our industry efforts on continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.”

Craig Wiggins, Executive Director of Step Change in Safety, said: “It is great to see the commitment of our workforce towards team building and prioritising safety. We are absolutely committed to ensuring every individual returns home safely, and every initiative to improve safety is recognised, adopted and celebrated. I am very much looking forward to the event in July.”
