Namibian authorities have criticised a group of tourists who reportedly posed naked at one of the African country’s dunes.

The dune, known as ‘Big Daddy’, stands 325m high and it’s a popular spot on Namibian dune safaris.

Photos and video of the naked unnamed male tourists have been widely shared although it is not known who took the images.

Kenneth Mapenda, vice-chairperson of the Federation of Namibian Tourism Associations, told the Namibian Sun the behaviour was sickening.

Mapenda said: “It is very sickening and it really (creates) a bad image for Namibia”. He added the incident could attract tourists “who think anything goes in Namibia”.

Local residents were reported as being shocked by the behaviour with some calling for action to be taken.

Romeo Muyunda, spokesperson for the ministry of environment, forestry and tourism said the incident was “extremely shocking”.

He said that the tourists had already left Namibia by the time the authorities were aware of the incident.

Muyunda said the naked posing violated public indecency laws in Namibia and appealed for people to report any other incidents.

However, some social media users said they didn’t see the problem with one saying there “was nothing wrong with sunbathing”.

Namibia isn’t the first country to face naked tourists with incidents also reported at landmarks in Bali and Cambodia.
