Ronnie Kray, the notorious London gangster, allegedly confessed to the shocking murder of Marilyn Monroe.
The former publicist of the Kray twins, James Campbell, claims that he heard the confession directly from Ronnie himself.
Campbell, who was close to the Krays in the ’80s, recalled: “Ronnie suddenly started talking about how he had murdered Marilyn Monroe. I was very shocked and tried to change the subject, but he was on a roll.
“He went to America. He was on a fake passport so as not to leave a paper trail. He was picked up at the airport and briefed about the job he had to do.
“The mob drove him to Marilyn Monroe’s house in Los Angeles. Ronnie was dressed as a maintenance man, baseball cap and a tool bag.”
Notably, Kray bragged about being personally responsible for delivering the fatal dose of barbiturates that led to Monroe’s untimely death in 1962 at her home in Los Angeles.
According to recent startling claims published by the Daily Star, Kray boasted about his connection to the American mafia and referred to the hit on Monroe as a ‘piece of cake.
Adding fuel to the enduring mystery of Monroe’s death, Campbell detailed how Peter Lawford, brother-in-law of then-President John F Kennedy, supposedly granted Kray access to Monroe’s residence.
Campbell stated: “He knocked on the door of her house and Peter Lawford answered. Ronnie said ‘where is she?’ and Lawford said ‘she’s in the bedroom’.
“They went into the bedroom, Marilyn Monroe was lying half-naked on the bed, it was a big bedroom with a big bed. Ronnie said to himself, this won’t take long. He force-fed her drugs and watched her die.
“He said it was a piece of cake.”
Campbell revealed on The Criminal Connection podcast that the hit was allegedly organized by the mob due to President John F Kennedy’s concern about Monroe spilling details of their affair.
Supposedly, mafia don Meyer Lansky facilitated the assassination in order to leverage JFK.
Ronnie returned to London and some weeks later, an American visitor delivered two gold bars to the Krays as payment, alongside a note from Lansky expressing his gratitude.
Ronnie and Reggie Kray, infamous East End gangsters and twins, led a criminal empire known as The Firm, engaging in activities ranging from murder to arson until their 1968 arrest.
In March 1969, they were both sentenced to life in prison. Declared insane, Ronnie was committed to Broadmoor Hospital where he stayed until his death by heart attack in 1995.
Reggie died of cancer shortly after his compassionate release in August 2000. Marilyn was found unresponsive by her housekeeper on August 4, 1962.
Her lifeless body was discovered with a phone receiver clutched in her hand and she was declared dead at 4.25am.
It was determined that Marilyn passed away between 8.30pm and 10.30pm on August 4, with a toxicology report attributing her death to acute barbiturate poisoning.
She had 8mg of chloral hydrate, 4.5mg of pentobarbital and 13mg of pentobarbital in her liver. Empty pill bottles were found next to her bed.
