Sizing technology has now moved into the accessories sector. Japanese tech sizing specialist Makip has evolved its Unisize offer to help UK shoppers find the best-sized bag to suit their needs, body shape and size.

Makip’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology now allows an accurate picture of how bags, backpacks and rucksacks will match a user’s body size. Additionally, it illustrates how many items such as laptops, notebooks, purses and wallets can fit into their bag of choice.

Pointing to a market size for bags in the UK estimated to increase by over £462 million by 2028, Makip says “there is a clear opportunity for UK e-commerce fashion and apparel retailers to ensure they provide accurate and reliable sizing technology to deliver the very best online shopping experiences for their customers and help prevent returns.”

Shingo Tsukamoto, CEO and president, added: “With current bag sizing technology, the contents are automatically calculated based on the size of the bag, and examples of specific items that can fit in the bag, such as a smartphone, or water bottle, are displayed, which may not show the shopper if they will cause the bag not to fasten, and do not allow the shopper to see how they will fit in the bag.

“With Unisize for bags, a unique algorithm has been built to prevent items from being displayed if their contents protrude according to the shape of the bag, allowing users to see at a glance the capacity of the bag and how suitable it is for their needs, as well as comparing it to other bags.”

It claims integration of Unisize can deliver “remarkable results” within a month, such as a 20% reduction in return rates and a 2.5 times increase in purchase rates.
