Hundreds of people are struggling to use Lloyds online banking due to technical issues, with customers complaining they cannot view their transactions or even that accounts appear ’empty’.

Down Detector, which monitors site outages, has seen over 500 reports this morning.

Of those, 75% were regarding online banking while 25% were for the mobile banking app.

One customer complained: ‘Absolutely disgusting!! I have an important payment to make and my banking is down. There was no warning given prior to this? Is it a regular maintenance? Impossible to get hold of someone to find out.’

Another said: ‘Cannot access online banking via the phone app, error message shows, states that lloyds are having problems and to try again later.’

While one customer even claimed: ‘Shows no transactions in all mode and appears to have emptied one of my accounts!’

A spokesperson for Lloyds replying to a disgruntled customer on X this morning said: ‘I do apologise and am very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

‘We are aware there is an issue and our IT team are currently working to fix this as soon as possible. If you can use the ‘September’ tab, you should be able to see all transactions.’

It comes after there were also reports of problems for Virgin Money customers over the past few days, with another spike today of over 100 reports on Down Detector.

Customers were unable to view their transactions on the Virgin app too.

Responding to an angry customer on X on Friday, spokesperson said: ‘We are sorry to hear you had issues with the app.

‘We recently received news that a fix was put regarding an issue raised earlier this afternoon by customers not being able to view transactions.

‘If this is the issue you are facing, please fully close the app and all background apps running.

‘Once done bring up the app, and pull down the page to refresh your transactions.’

They also advised customers to delete the app completely and reinstall it if this didn’t work.
