Love Is Blind UK’s Steven Smith has denied inviting his ex-girlfriend to his wedding with Sabrina, after Sabrina claimed Steven’s ex was present at their ceremony.
Steven and Sabrina met on the inaugural series of Love Is Blind UK, where, after going on a series of dates in the pods, the couple got engaged and married within a number of weeks, in a ceremony in front of their friends and family. Since their wedding over a year ago, the couple have since revealed they are now seeking an annulment after their marriage didn’t work out.
And Sabrina has now claimed Steven invited an ex-girlfriend to their wedding ceremony. While speaking to IGV about her experience on the show, Sabrina claimed Steven had brought his ex-partner to the wedding and Sabrina had to introduce herself to the ex.
“Steven bought his ex-girlfriend to our wedding,” she revealed. “I didn’t get to speak to her, I introduced myself.”
Steven has denied he invited his ex-girlfriend to the wedding, exclusively telling Cosmopolitan UK Sabrina’s claim was “factually incorrect” and the person he invited to the wedding was in fact someone who he had gone on a few dates with that later became a friend.
“It was someone who I went on a few dates with a couple of years ago that didn’t materialise into anything other than a friendship,” he said in a statement to Cosmopolitan UK. “I consulted with Sabrina on the whole wedding list, as couples do before any invites were sent out, so I’m surprised she said this.”
During his time on Love Is Blind UK Steven did mention a different past relationship while on his dates in the pods with Sabrina. He candidly revealed his ex-girlfriend had been diagnosed with cancer and she had broken up with him while going through treatment, which Sabrina offered her sympathies towards.
Sabrina and Steven got incredibly close during their time in the pods, and eventually Steven became the first groom to propose. Their post-pod journey then appeared to run very smoothly as they moved into a Camden flat together, met each other’s friends and family, and then tied the knot at their stunning wedding ceremony.
However, earlier this week during the Love Is Blind UK reunion, the pair revealed they are no longer together. Sabrina said the long distance and a lack of communication from Steven contributed to the end of the relationship.
“One of the big things in the pods that really drew me to him [Steven] was when I said I quit my job, how he reacted to that,” Sabrina told hosts Matt and Emma Willis. “He was like ‘I can’t wait to support you’. And I said I wanted to start my own agency but the support wasn’t there.
“Then we had agreed we were going to split our time between Belfast and London for the first year. So that left us in a position where we were doing long distance, which was not the plan from the word go. But the communication was awful. There was no consistency in Steven’s behaviour towards me and the relationship.”
Steven agreed it was initially the long distance that drew them apart and added that they had lost their spark.
“Primarily it was the long distance. What we underestimated the added pressure of what the long distance caused, ” he said during the reunion. “We both left our jobs to find love, that’s why I fell for Sabrina. Sabrina started her own company, and it took off and it was brilliant. We just lost our spark.”
Sabrina revealed she went to London seven times while Steven visited Belfast twice during their marriage, with Steven admitting he let them down. Speaking to BBC, though, he admitted he was a “bit hurt” by the way he was portrayed during the reunion, adding, ” [but] I know who I am and my friends and family know and that’s all that matters.”
Here’s hoping the pair are both doing ok following the end of their marriage.
