Mohamed Salah has once again been the main man for the Reds this season, with 30 goals and assists already in the league.
Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have also been key parts in Liverpool’s campaign so far, with Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez playing slightly smaller roles in the Reds’ attack.
Now, Liverpool may have the chance to improve their league-best forward line by signing the fourth best forward in the world.
Jonathan David available for free
Long-term Liverpool target Jonathan David, who was first considered by the club back in 2020 before they signed Jota, could be available on a free transfer in the summer as his contract at Lille is set to expire.
The Canadian forward has already openly expressed his desire not to move in January and so a free transfer is looking more and more likely for the 24-year-old.
As the year comes to a close many in the world of football have been reflecting on 2024, and one data expert has compiled a list of the best forwards in Europe.
Michael Reid posted the ranking on X, formerly known as Twitter, and it was topped by a familiar face.
Although Salah sits top of the list, David is only five goals behind him in fourth place.
Liverpool could have an absolute steal on their hands if they could secure the fourth-most prolific forward in Europe on a free transfer.
Do Liverpool need David?
Although the Reds currently possess one of best attacking units in world football – the jewel in the crown, Mo Salah, is also on a contract that is set to expire in the summer.
Speculation around Salah’s future has been rife and, although a new deal is reportedly in the works, it is a very real possibility that the Egyptian King leaves Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the season.
There is also a question mark over the future of Darwin Nunez, and the departure of any of Liverpool’s forwards would leave the Reds with a need for reinforcements.
With that in mind, a move for Jonathan David could be exactly the bargain Arne Slot and Richard Hughes need to kick-start a rebuild at the top of the pitch for Liverpool.
