With the winter holidays coming up, many Brits are looking to jet off to lands near and far to make the most of the Christmas period.

And while the festive spirit might be contagious, sometimes excessive crowds can dampen the mood and make sightseeing more of a chore than an adventure.

That’s why Co-op Holidays has shared a much lesser-known destination that can be the perfect alternative for most popular winter destinations.

With flights from London in December starting from £49, Tallin is equally charming as it is accessible.

While Tallinn is the capital of Estonia, it doesn’t suffer from the overcrowding common in other major European cities, even during peak tourist seasons.

Its beautiful medieval Old Town, with cobbled streets, gothic architecture, and cosy cafés, remains relatively quiet in winter, allowing visitors to enjoy the sights without the hustle and bustle of mass tourism.

The area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, also offers great value for money, particularly compared to more popular European cities like Prague, Paris, or Copenhagen.

Accommodation, dining, and local transport are all reasonably priced, making it an ideal winter getaway for those on a budget. Estonia’s lower cost of living translates into affordable experiences for tourists.

Co-op Holidays highlighted a package to visit the city with a four-star, four-night stay, starting December 16th from £490pp, including Finnair flights from London Heathrow.

And not to mention, Tallinn’s Old Town looks even more magical in winter, with cobblestone streets dusted with snow and Christmas lights adorning buildings as impressive as the Tallinn TV Tower, which boasts panoramic views of the city

During the festive season, Tallinn hosts a fabulous Christmas market, where visitors can enjoy mulled wine, handmade gifts, and local treats at affordable prices.

The medieval town square is transformed into a winter wonderland with Christmas lights, a giant tree, and performances from carolers and local musicians.

Some of the city’s main winter activities, such as ice skating at the outdoor rink or walking along scenic snow-covered parks like Kadriorg Park or the nearby Lahemaa National Park, are either budget-friendly or free.
