Hounslow Council has written three open letters to the new Labour Government, describing how its plans support government strategy and showing it is ‘open for business’.
In the first letter, dated August 15, Hounslow Council’s cabinet member for climate, environment, and transport, Cllr Katherine Dunne, wrote to Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband about working together on energy security.
Cllr Dunne said in her letter;
“A key limiting factor to Net Zero transition is constraints on grid capacity and energy supply. This is being acutely felt in West London and is having a severe impact on our ability to bring forward low-carbon housing development and retrofit existing housing stock with renewable community energy generation and storage solutions. Hounslow has been at the forefront working with GLA and other boroughs to develop a West London Local Area Energy Plan.”
In the second letter, on August 19, Hounslow Council’s cabinet member for assets, regeneration & development, Cllr Tom Bruce, wrote to Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner MP to reaffirm their commitment to delivering housing.
Cllr Bruce said; “Our Regeneration Vision and advanced Hounslow Local Plan aim to deliver 28,800 new homes and thousands of jobs by 2041.”
In the third and final letter, the leader of Hounslow Council, Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves MP, outlining the new business case for growth in the borough, Opportunity Hounslow.
Cllr Rajawat said; “Hounslow has the second highest GVA per hour worked in London and, being well-connected with a vibrant economy of 15,000 businesses, stands ready to play a lead role in the national renewal mission, knowing we can be a local blueprint for collaboration between central and local government to achieve targeted, equitable growth and development.”
