The Princess of Wales has been largely absent from public life this year

Prince Harry has spoken of his excitement at turning 40 on Sunday, as he plans to celebrate with his family in California before heading away on a break with his closest friends.

In a statement to the BBC, he said: “Whatever the age, my mission is to continue showing up and doing good in the world.”

He added that becoming a father to his two children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, three, had given him a “fresh perspective on life” and made him more committed to making the world a better place.

Reports have also suggested that Meghan Markle may be returning to the UK in September after receiving an invite to join the Christmas celebrations at Harry’s uncle, Earl Spencer’s house.

Meanwhile, their 11-year-old nephew Prince George is following in his father’s footsteps and is already learning to fly, with reports suggesting that he took his first flight on the final day of his summer holidays.

The future king reportedly “loved” his maiden flight, while Prince William and Kate watched him from the runway on the White Waltham Airfield near Maidenhead.

Harry and Meghan may return to UK for Christmas

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may return to the UK for Christmas, after reportedly receiving an invite from his uncle, Earl Spencer, at his home in Althorp House.

The couple are said to have received an invite to join their celebrations, along with their two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

If they were to attend, it would be Meghan’s first trip back to the UK since the late Queen’s funeral in 2022.

Speaking to OK! magazine, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: “Well, if an offer has indeed been made – which seems quite logical – and if they accepted, it would fly in the face of everything Harry has said about security. He has repeatedly said he believes it’s unsafe to bring his wife and children to the UK without a guarantee of official security.”
