INNOVATIVE engineering business JBS Group, which has secured worldwide contracts, has recorded record revenues with a 38% increase on year-on-year turnover.
JBS Group has announced turnover of £11.5m for its latest financial year [April, 2024] – up from £8.3m for the same period last year.
The firm has secured contracts in the UK, United States, Middle East, Europe, Brazil, Australia, West Africa and South-east Asia. JBS has secured projects with several clients including operators, global engineering firms, large subsea firms, US space giants and specialist North Sea engineering companies.
Jo McIntosh, sales and marketing director, said: “Our broad range of products and services, supported by a proven track record, are reaping dividends. We are securing complex engineering projects in the UK and internationally that are challenging but also rewarding.
“International work now accounts for more than 60% of our projects and we expect this to increase over the next financial year. We can continue to grow by continuing to provide valuable support to client projects and expanding our capability into other markets beyond the energy sector.”
JBS Group has four main divisions – fabrication, its innovative Sea Axe subsea excavation technology, blast containment systems and screw conveyors.
The firm has seen increased global demand for its Sea Axe Controlled Flow Excavation (CFE) technology, known for its compact design and environmentally friendly approach to subsea excavation. This method, which leverages natural erosion, minimises impact and meets the growing client demand for sustainable and innovative solutions. The patented technology has secured UK and international contracts,
The fabrication division has also seen a rise in demand, resulting in numerous contracts with large energy firms. This work spans reel modifications, on-site fabrication support and other specialised services.
JBS has secured agreements with various companies in the energy and space sectors for its unique blast containment products. These products, featuring patented fabrics, offer protection against ballistic, blast, fire and arc flash hazards.
JBS has also supported replacement part programmes and the implementation of its proprietary dual-drive screw conveyor systems. One specialist project was a twin conveyor system with shaftless screws and xylethon liners. These were engineered and designed specifically for challenging drilling muds where previously traditional conveyors had failed.
Projects secured in the first quarter (Q1) of this year include:
Fabrication
- Drilling contractor in Netherlands – engineering design, manufacture and offshore installation of skip stations and ‘magic carpets’
- Biogas – pipework and onsite fabrication alongside electrical support, working in collaboration with project partners
- Onsite team of welders, fabricators for large-scale reel restoration project in Scotland
- Gulf of Mexico – offshore welder/fabricators working on behalf of global engineering business
- Multiple scopes of works including: Moon pool hatch, including catcher / bumper frame utilised aboard client’s vessel allowing them the ability to work over the moonpool and deploy through the 1m x1m opening,
Sea Axe
- Australia – an ongoing, significant project
- Working with project partner on southern North Sea decommissioning project
- Uncovering of mattresses and grout bags for recovery
- Sea Axe use on a large underground electricity interconnector linking the power markets in Ireland and Great Britain – one of Europe’s most important energy infrastructure projects.
Blast Containment
- USA operator – installation of new patented blast-containment canopies
- Blast blankets for the Houston operation of a global subsea firm
- Portable blast enclosure for a well-known space company in the US
Screw Conveyors
- Dual-drive screw conveyor conversions in Brazil. Mandate from state-owned Brazilian multinational corporation that all screw conveyor systems must utilise a dual drive system. JBS is able to design, manufacture and install these systems for our clients at their offshore installations in the Brazilian sector of the Atlantic Ocean.
- Screw conveyor systems in West Africa
- New twin conveyor systems with dual drives for global firm, offshore Norway
- JBS team in Denmark for offshore conveyor installation
The strategic acquisition of Screw Conveyors Ltd seven years ago has enriched JBS with a 20-year database of technical information and equipment. JBS’s status as an authorised distributor for Martin Sprocket and a stockist for Nord Drive Systems further enhances its market position in this sector.
As part of JBS Group’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions, the company has adopted a policy to source all electricity from low-carbon options. JBS has signed a contract to equip its Peterhead facility with rooftop solar panels. This strategy is aimed at reducing reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to sustainability goals.
Operating with a team of 60, JBS is headquartered at South View, Dales Industrial Estate, Peterhead. The firm won the Going Global category at the 2023 Northern Star Business Awards, organised by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce.
