A daring couple sold all their possessions to travel the world, claiming that Britain is no longer a safe place to raise children.

Known on TikTok as @theunconventionalfam, they initially relocated to Australia and then ventured onto Asia, convinced there’s more to life than what the UK offers. In a revealing disclosure, they listed five key reasons for their departure from British shores, some of which might come as a surprise.

Their first point of contention was the alarming trend of crime in the UK, with reports of children as young as 12 dabbling in drug-related activities. The rise in knife crime particularly “scares” the couple, prompting their move.

The pair also noted a perceived decline in societal values, observing a lack of respect among some youths towards figures of authority, including teachers and police officers.

Healthcare woes were another factor influencing their decision, as they spoke of the National Health Service facing “incredible stress” post-Covid-19, and highlighted the difficulties in securing medical appointments as a contributing reason for their emigration.

In a frank video statement, the couple expressed: “Point number three I think, for us, is the weather. In seven months, eight months of the year there’s just not really sunshine. It’s cold, it’s miserable, it’s wet.

“You get back from work and you just have to stay inside. It’s just quite depressing. It’s difficult to live that healthier lifestyle. A lot of people keep saying to me ‘I want to go there because I want to see snow’.

“The UK doesn’t see much snow, we get maybe a couple of days a year. If that, sometimes.

“Number four is the cost of living. Everyone knows the UK is very expensive. The average UK house price now is £356,000, which is arond the 2million Ringgit mark. Average rental price is around £1,200 a month.”

They also highlighted the steep cost of petrol, and pointed out that the average food bill in the UK amounts to roughly £800 a month. They added that dining out wouldn’t be affordable for a family of four either.

Speaking about food, they argued that the quality of food is superior in Asia, arguing that a lot is now “mass produced” in the UK. As for their final point, they discussed the overall UK culture.

Regarding raising young girls, they expressed concern about the increasing popularity of cosmetic surgery, and the emphasis on body image. They believe travelling provides their children with a more expansive perspective on life.

Since the video was posted, it has been viewed thousands of times, and it quickly garnered comments. Many commended their decision to relocate.

One individual remarked: “I lived in the UK for 19 years before moving back to Malaysia. I know what you mean about the UK. We homeschooled our daughter because of the problems. Looking back, we definitely did the right thing.”

Another commented: “You’re good parents for making a big decision to move.” Meanwhile, a third chimed in with: “But you can’t get Greggs sausage rolls here, and haggis and black pudding. Just kidding. Welcome to Malaysia.”
