Young people from across the Hull and East Yorkshire will explore the world of business when they take part in an international festival of enterprise in November.

Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024 (GEW) will embrace 180 countries, with millions of people participating in activities designed to provide them with the knowledge, experience and connections they may need to succeed in business.

Hull City Council, Yorkshire in Business and the Microbusiness Alliance, working with the youth enterprise eco-system, will be marking 21 years of involvement with a series of events between 18-22 November under the umbrella theme of ‘Entrepreneurs Thrive Here’.

They will also be celebrating the late Mark Jones, former director of regeneration at the council, for his contributions to the regeneration of the city in general and the youth enterprise eco-system in particular.

Marc Ortmans, chair of GEN UK and GEW UK added: “Over the last 21 years, Hull and East Yorkshire has played a significant part every year in celebrating what it does to support enterprise skills and youth entrepreneurship.

“Hull and East Yorkshire has always demonstrated a commitment to engaging with enterprising young people and sharing good practice with colleagues across the UK and the rest of the world.

“We are delighted at GEN UK that Hull City Council has developed a new Commonwealth Partnership to promote youth entrepreneurship in memory of Mark Jones, who did so much for young people in particular those who experienced the care system, apprentices and aspiring young entrepreneurs.”

Discussions during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2023.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, the council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, added: “Global Entrepreneurship Week is one the council looks forward to annually.

“It is inspirational in the way it supports young entrepreneurs globally and we look forward to doing likewise with local businesses.”

The programme is sponsored by Engaging Education, T Arran Photography, John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank, Hull Story, Jordan Smith Mortgage & Protection Advisor, Design Over Technology, Enterprise Days and Hull City Council.

It will also benefit two charities Action for Ashley and Joy for Joel, two young people with Duchenne.
