Job Summary

Finchley Children’s Music Group is seeking an experienced, committed and enthusiastic Executive Director to lead the core operations of the Group, professionalise and develop systems and, as joint CEO with the Artistic Director, to develop the strategic vision for the future of FCMG.

Job Description

FCMG (Finchley Children’s Music Group), founded in 1958 with Benjamin Britten later becoming its President, is London’s leading children’s choir with over 200 singers aged between 4 and 18 across six choirs. Under the direction of Grace Rossiter since 2001, the choirs are well known for their natural, vibrant vocal quality.

In addition to our own concerts, FCMG is regularly invited to take part in performances of larger choral works with leading conductors and orchestras and in recordings for radio, television and film. In the past year this has included working with the Aurora Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and BBC Ten Pieces. FCMG has on ongoing commitment to new music for children’s voices and seeks to commission new repertoire from leading UK composers.

Historically FCMG has had a high level of volunteer involvement, and this is planned to continue but within an enhanced operational structure. The Executive Director leads the operational side of the organisation, working in close co-operation with the Artistic Director and reporting to the Board of Trustees.

We welcome applications from experienced, effective administrators with a love of music, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, disability, age and background, reflecting and representing the diversity of the north London community.

Job Requirements

This is a key role within Finchley Children’s Music Group, operating alongside the Artistic Director as joint CEO, to lead the operations of the charity and develop the strategic vision with the Board and the Artistic Director.

The Executive Director manages the administrator and the volunteers in achieving and delivering the operational efficiency and effectiveness of FCMG.

The Executive Director identifies the needs of the organisation and recruits the staff and volunteers necessary to operate the organisation to a high professional standard, with the support of the trustees.

During the first year in the post, the Executive Director will review the organisational effectiveness of FCMG and make recommendations to the Board regarding improvements and development. This may lead to relevant changes of structures and roles if required.

The postholder will work in close co-operation with the Artistic Director as the co-leaders of the organisation and report to the Board of Trustees
