Now that the weather is warming up many people are planning their holiday, but you do not have to travel far as there are many spectacular places to visit in Britain.

Southwold is a cosy coastal town located in Suffolk, England which is known for its stunning golden beach with views of colourful Georgian homes at the waterfront and a massive historic white lighthouse that overlooks the North Sea.

This beautiful town is the perfect place for a seaside holiday as it lies directly inside the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Landscape, which has been named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty due to its ancient woodlands, flowering heathlands, rugged cliffs and rivers worth exploring.

It has been named the number one “best seaside town” by the Camping and Caravanning Club mainly because of its “charming” sights and “award-winning” Victorian pier.

Southwold has also been described as “Suffolk’s most charming coastal town” by the Times, which stated the town is a fantastic place for a “Great British break” as there is plenty to do in this “eccentric” location.

What makes Southwold such a great place to visit is that it has a beach to relax on, lots of surrounding countryside and a bustling market town centre so there is always something to explore and see.

Once on Southwold’s beach, you can walk past the pastel-coloured beach huts to the Southwold Pier, which is stocked with many shops and cafes so you can have a fun visit.

The pier holds many cafes to enjoy some treats, such as the locally made ice cream, cakes and other frozen desserts at the Suffolk Meadow which changes its flavours to match the season and has been in business for over 30 years.

However, the main attraction of Southwold Beach is the Under the Pier Show, a unique amusement arcade which holds many quirky games and interactive exhibits.

Nearby the pier is also the Electric Picture Palace where visitors can watch nostalgic movies and shows to recreate what going to the cinema would have been like in the 1950s.

There is also the Southwold Lighthouse, a landmark of the town which is a massive white tower which was built in the 1880s and still works today. Visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse to enjoy the views or even take a tour to learn more about the significance of this

It is also worth visiting the Thorington Theatre, an outdoor theatre located in the woods where a variety of shows take place from stand-up comedy to Shakespeare classics.

One of the most iconic staples of Southwold is the Adnams Brewery, a historic location first established in 1872 where you can take a tour to learn more of Southwold’s rich brewing history, purchase some beers, wines or spirits at the brewery’s store and even relax at the cafe to enjoy some freshly baked cakes.

Southwold is also known for hosting many festivals throughout the year such as the Southwold Literary Festival in winter, the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival in the autumn and a summer theatre festival where there will be a variety of shows so you are likely to find something to enjoy.
