On the southern part of ‘s Red Sea coast is the seaside resort town of Port Ghalib, which has been named among Tripadvisor’s “best of the best” destinations for 2024. Described as being “the ultimate sport for those in the know”, Port Ghalib is best known for its .

The resort has two main beach areas, both of which are perfect for long days spent on the day and swimming in the sea.

Tripadvisor’s report states: “The beaches are one of the main draws, with golden sands and blue waters that you could spend all your days soaking up.

“The world beneath the surface is just as stunning—a boat ride takes you to Sataya Reef, where you can explore the vibrant coral reef and swim with dolphins.”

The eastern beach is the place to be for snorkelers, with jetty access to the reefs. Three world-renowned dive sites, The Brothers Islands, Daedalus Reef and Rocky Island, are within easy reach of Port Ghalib.

Divers can visit one of the area’s popular dive sites with the help of local dive centres. These are operated by professional, fully-trained instructors.

There are also several boat tours which offer the chance to see dolphins swimming in the wild.

The southern beach is the place to be for your typical beach day. Other popular watersports in the resort include kayaking, windsurfing, parasailing and jet skiing.

Port Ghalib is best reached from Marsa Alam International Airport, which is just a five-minute drive away.

There are also plenty of day trips within easy reach of the resort, including Luxor, which is home to some of Egypt’s ancient temples.

“Port Ghalib Marina is the go-to for a night out,” said Tripadvisor. “With yachts, waterfront restaurants, and a Mediterranean vibe, it’s ideal for a sunset stroll or fancy dinner.”
