eBay UK have just announced the launch of Trade In, offering customers the chance to give their old tech new life and make extra cash within minutes. It’s basically a service to attract consumers with tech they no longer need, but can’t face the task of selling themselves – trade in, get the cash, and buy something else on eBay is the proposition which should drive more sales for sellers.

Customers can trade in popular devices across 8 different categories, including phones, tablets, smartwatches and consoles, free of charge. eBay’s partner Fonehouse will inspect, repair and refurbish devices to give them a second life through their eBay store.

Trading in used devices is simple. Users enter the details of their device to instantly find out how much their item is worth. Once confirmed, they have 14 days to send their device free of charge. Fonehouse utilises ADISA-accredited solutions to securely erase all data from your device, and your item will be insured upon postage, up to the value of £150, for further peace of mind.

With flexible payment options, customers can choose how they receive their money: customers can either choose an instant eBay coupon to fund an upgrade, or receive payment directly to their bank account.

What’s more, from 9th of December 2024 until the 3rd of January 2025, customers who trade-in selected items will receive an additional £50 on top of the assessed trade-in value.

How Trade In works:

Head to eBay Trade In

Determine the value of the device: Enter the model, and condition of the device to find out its trade-in value.

Choose a trade-in offer: You may either be offered an instant voucher, which you can use towards the purchase of another device, or a payout directly to your bank account.

If customers choose an eBay coupon, it can be redeemed on eBay within 48 hours of issuance.

If customers choose a payout to their bank account, they will receive the money within 5-7 days, after Fonehouse have checked the condition of their old device.

Post your item: Users have 14 days to send in their old device, free of charge and insured up to the value of £150. After eBay’s Trade In partner, Fonehouse, has received the package, they will use an ADISA-accredited solution to securely erase all data from the old device for peace of mind.
