The Museum of Oxford opened brand new National Lottery funded galleries and learning spaces in October 2021, and our communities’ voices are integral to the stories we share. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team, playing a key role in the development and delivery of partnerships, community, public and exhibitions programmes and activities at our museum.
We are looking for some who is passionate about engaging local voices in their heritage and has a proven track record of working with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds to actively engage them with the co-development of events and interpretation.
The role is a core member of the team, also helping to manage the day-to day operation of the Museum, so that it is a welcoming and safe place for visitors, volunteers and staff.
Job Requirements
- To develop and deliver events and interpretation at the Museum of Oxford, in partnership with Oxford’s diverse communities.
- To maintain existing community relationships and develop new ones with communities that are underrepresented in our collections and galleries.
- The post holder will work closely with a wider team and will help deliver the aims of the Museum of Oxford and to raise the profile of the museum with local communities
- Assist with the day to day operation of the museum and duty manage as required
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver events and interpretation
- Develop long-term and sustainable relationships with key community partners and stakeholders
- Co-develop projects in partnership with target audiences of a wide age range, including children and young people.
- Undertake outreach work to community venues to promote the work of the Museum of Oxford
- Supervising volunteers who are supporting project activities and events
- Collect evaluation and impact data
- Contribute to funding applications and lead on the delivery of relevant areas of work in successful applications
- Update relevant digital platforms (e.g. City Stories), databases and websites
- Assist and provide support on marketing initiatives to help promote and strengthen the Museum and develop new audiences
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the museum and act as a duty manager on a rota basis
- Help co-ordinate, duty manage and attend events to support fundraising and community engagement initiatives
