Teahupoo is the 7/4 favourite for the 2024 Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival today.
Trained by Gordon Elliott, the seven-year-old bay gelding is the leading contender. In last year’s Stayers’ Hurdle, Teahupoo was third past the post behind Sire Du Berlais and Dashel Drasher. After a stewards’ inquiry, he was promoted to second but a successful appeal by Dashel Drasher’s connections led to the positions being reversed once again.
Despite winning last year’s renewal, Sire Du Berlais is priced at 22/1 following a seventh-placed finish in the Boyne Hurdle in Navan.
Crambo, the second favourite at 5/1, is coming off a victory over rivals Paisley Park (14/1) and Dashel Drasher in the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot in December.
Noble Yeats, the 2022 Grand National winner, is priced at 7/1 for the Stayers’ Hurdle after claiming victory in the McCoy Contractors Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham Trials Day on January 27, in which he also defeated Paisley Park and Dashel Drasher. Sir Gerhard is the same price at 7/1 and is gaining in popularity, sparking hopes of a return to his glory days.
