Galopin Des Champs is now as short as 5/6 favourite to make it back-to-back wins in the Cheltenham Gold Cup ahead of today’s feature race at 3.30pm.
While last year’s winner has shortened, there has also been big movement in the rest of the market with Gerri Colombe the second favourite at 13/2 and last year’s runner-up Fastorslow at 8/1.
Both have recently been beaten by Galopin Des Champs at Leopardstown: Fastorslow in last month’s Irish Gold Cup and Gerri Colombe in the Savills Chase in December.
L’Homme Presse is next in the betting at 10/1 after returning from a 13-month break with a win in the Fleur De Lys Chase at Lingfield and a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Ascot Chase last month.
The 2023 Grand National winner Corach Rambler has also shortened, to 14/1, with Bravemansgame, who finished second in the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day, at 16/1. The winner that day, Hewick, has been withdrawn from the Gold Cup.
Gentlemansgame, Nassalam and Monkfish are all 22/1 outsiders to win the Gold Cup while Jungle Boogie is 28/1 and The Real Wacker completes the market at 40/1.
