So where are the cheapest destinations to fly to over the May Bank holiday?
Poitiers, France
We found flights to Poitiers for £97 return from London Stansted. A city in France’s western Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Poitiers is one of France’s most underrated city breaks.
Poitiers top attraction is the Notre Dame-la-Grande church which was built in the Middle Ages and has an incredible carved facade.
If the weather’s good, go for a walk in Blossac Park which overlooks the Clain Valley and has a zoo and rock garden.
Oslo, Norway
We found flights to Oslo for under £120 return from Manchester Airport. Norway’s capital city has some world-class museums to explore.
Visit the MUNCH museum to learn more about the Scream painter’s life and works or the country’s maritime museum.
Sample some fresh seafood or opt for pork and dumplings while you’re there. Norway is an expensive destination so check out hotels before booking a flight.
Cross the border
Due to its different term dates, Scotland’s schools don’t have half-term at the same time as in the UK so English tourists can get some great deals if they’re close to the Scottish border.
We found flights from Edinburgh to Billund in Denmark for under £60 return, Dusseldorf in Germany for under £65 and Eindhoven for under £90.
Billund is the birthplace of Lego while Dusseldorf is known for its fashion and art industry while Eindhoven’s Van Abbemuseum has works from Picasso and Rodin.
