A Powys-based autism care professional has been hailed as the most ‘Inspirational Care Home Worker’ in the UK at the Stars of Social Care Awards 2024.

Carol Morgan took the title at the UK finals of the Care Home section of this year’s event at a special ceremony held in London hosted by presenter of ITV’s This Morning programme, Josie Gibson.

Carol works with Orbis Education and Care at Ty Bronllys which supports children living with autism with a range of residential and educational learning options on a part-time or full-time basis.

In her role as a Support Worker, Carol has made the 20-mile journey daily for the past 15 years from her home in Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, to support young people based at Ty Bronllys, near Brecon.

Carol said:

“I have an unwavering passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential, and even being nominated for the award filled me with pride. Never did I expect to win, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity and recognition.

“Reflecting on my last 15 years at Orbis, I can honestly say that I have loved every minute of it, and I truly believe that it is an honour to be a Support Worker.”

The Stars of Social Care Awards take place in London every year to shine a light on the stars of social care, paying tribute to the workforce who through dedication and a commitment to care, go above and beyond to support those who are most vulnerable.

The Inspirational Care Home category recognises outstanding individuals who have demonstrated a passion to promote independence, choice and dignity through high-quality, person-centred care, with Carol beating off competition from nine other care workers based UK-wide to take the 2024 award.

Home manager at Ty Bronllys, Emma Arnold, said:

“Carol has worked at Ty Bronllys for 15 years and I’ve been fortunate to work with her for nine of those. She really is a true inspiration and has dedicated so much of her time to supporting staff and learners at Ty Bronllys over the years.”

“Carol is a supportive and friendly person who has gone above and beyond the remit of her role during her time with Orbis Education and Care and I really can’t think of anyone else more deserving of this award. Thank you for everything Carol, you truly are amazing.”

Orbis Education and Care runs 37 schools, residential homes and day facilities for children and adults with complex needs associated with autism and is one of the leading specialist providers in the UK.
