British tourists visiting Spain this week are being warned to expect more travel disruption at one of the country’s major airports.
Security staff at Alicante Airport are scheduled to strike for five days, impacting holiday travellers. The strike will affect holidaymakers from today until Sunday (August 4).
According to a notice on the Jet2 website, security services at Alicante Airport will be disrupted from 8.30am to 9.30am and from 6pm to 7pm, reports The Sun.
Travellers are advised to allow extra time to avoid missing their flights.
They wrote: “The strike is supported by security services at the airport and will affect congestion at security control.
“Please allow extra time to pass through check-in and security. Your flight is still due to depart at the scheduled time and check-in will close 40 minutes before a flight’s departure time.
“Jet2holidays customers can be assured that transfers have been arranged to ensure you have enough time to pass through security.”
While the advice has been issued by Jet2, British holidaymakers travelling on other airlines like Ryanair, easyJet, and TUI are also likely to be affected by the strike action.
Strikes involving security staff have been occurring at Alicante Airport since September 2023.
Other strikes, including a walkout by Air Traffic Controllers, have also disrupted operations at the airport.
Last month, British travellers faced two-hour waits to get a cab at the Spanish airport.
Similar issues occurred last year with long queues forming outside the airport.
