The study analysed 12 months of reviews across 1.6million hotels on the TripAdvisor hotels, with a number of categories.

This includes best all-inclusive, B&Bs, luxury resorts and boutique hotels.

Dan Mitchell, Vice President & General Manager Hotels, TripAdvisor, said: “Our Best of the Best Hotels are marvels, acclaimed by thousands of travellers for their remarkable service, stunning design, and wealth of amenities that redefine what it means to have an exceptional hotel experience.

“According to our TripAdvisor reviewers, each of the world’s best hotels caters to the traveller looking for accessible luxury and unique, tailored experiences.”

The best hotel in the UK was revealed as The Resident in Covent Garden, London.

Inside are just 57 rooms, each with a miniature kitchen that has a Nespresso machine and Brita filter taps.

They range from a standard double room to the fancier Junior Suite that sleeps up to three people.

While there is no on-site restaurant, there is a 24-hour front desk to help during the stay.

Guests can request in-room groceries as well as order room service from the Drinks & Snacks menu although you can even order from online food delivery apps which can be delivered to the room.

And being in Covent Garden, there are lots of restaurants nearby to choose from including Pizza Hut, Bella Italia and Five Guys.

Previous guests have raved about the hotel, with more than 1,700 reviews, with nearly all of them five stars.

Most people said both the location and the service were the highlight, with plans to stay again.

One said: “This little gem is in the middle of a small street but don’t let that fool you.

“The service is top notch, the rooms are immaculately kept and the appliances are up to date.”

A second called it a ” a little haven in the middle of London“.

Another simply wrote: “Definitely the best London hotel.”
