From a centre-back’s perspective, it was odd defending for the opening goal from Jan Paul van Hecke.
Even though a team-mate was in the vicinity to mark Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal’s lone striker, as Ethan Nwaneri drove into the box, Van Hecke seemed distracted by Jesus’ presence to the extent that he barely left the Brazilian’s shoulder.
At least not until it was too late, where his challenge was nowhere near enough to distract Nwaneri from slotting it home.
Maybe he wanted to position himself to close down the angle for a cross and trust goalie Bart Verbruggen. Not sure that was wise, as the ball made its way under his compatriot as Arsenal took the lead.
Questionable decision-making.
